Breast surgery is an umbrella term for several types of cosmetic surgery procedures, including breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, breast reconstruction, and breast implant revision.
Enhancement or Enlargement of the breasts is one the of the most common elective cosmetic procedures sought out by women. The options for material for augmentation are limited to saline filled silicone shells, form stable silicone gel implants and more recently fat, taken directly from patient and implanted. Approaches to breast augmentation are numerous and they include an inframammary (lower breast crease approach), periareolar (through the nipple), Trans-axillary )through the armpit and trans-umbilical (through the belly button). Implants are, for the most part placed under the pectoralis muscle however, there are some instances that the implant is placed above muscle for optimal esthetic results. Surgery is perforned at our outpatient surgical facility and patients go home the same day of surgery. Incisions are all closed with dissolvable stitches and reenforced with tape . Patient wears a supportive bra continuously for 1 week and should avoid jarring activity and jogging for at least 4 weeks after surgery.
Nipple position often dictates whether a patient is a candidate of routine breast augmentation or a breast lift/mastopexy or both. The position of the nipple relation to the inframammary fold dictated.
